C’est par des arrêtés pris à l’encontre des 6 officiers, individuellement, que le chef d’état-major des armées, le général Salifou Modi, a mis fin à leurs fonctions. Les trois colonels, le capitaine, et les deux lieutenants sont tous radiés des forces armées nigériennes
Selon l’état-major des armées, il leur est reproché des fautes graves dans le service et contre la discipline militaire et c’est une préoccupation de la hiérarchie de prendre des sanctions disciplinaires, sans préjudice de poursuites judiciaires, indique un officier général.
Le tribunal militaire les accuse d’être impliqués de la tentative présumée de coup d’Etat dans la nuit du 30 au 31 mars 2021 contre le régime de Mahamadou Issoufou, 48h avant l’investiture du nouveau président élu Mohamed Bazoum.
Au moment des faits qui leur sont reprochés, les trois officiers supérieurs avaient tous de très hautes responsabilités dans la hiérarchie militaire : le premier était chef du bureau des opérations à l’état-major des armées, le second était le commandant de la zone de défense n°1 de Tillabéri et le 3e le commandant du 112e bataillon interarmes par intérim de Dosso.
Ce sont le capitaine Sani Gourouza(arrêté en avril 2021 au Bénin) et un commandant des Forces spéciales, qui ont tenté de prendre le palais présidentiel. La tentative avait échoué grâce à la réaction rapide de la Garde présidentielle.
